Singing is an excellent way to combat shyness.

Feeling shy can often lead to a child or adult being embarrassed by public attention.

Everyone experiences at least some level of shyness. Judge your own, do you only tend to get shy around people you don’t know too well or are you so shy, that you feel scared to talk to just about anyone?

If you feel that shyness tends to get into the way of your everyday life, then here is how singing can help:

  • Start singing on your own at first, even if your voice tends to be very soft and quiet
  • Instead of aiming to be an Idol-grade performer, start slowly – but regularly – to sing at least a few times per week around the comfort of your own house, if not every day
  • Look up one of your favourite songs, find its lyrics as well as study them and off you go!

Singing is the expression of your voice, and your voice is you!

The act of singing not only releases your voice, it also works on breaking down those inner barriers, in other words – singing helps to unwind your personal “you” in a very effective way.

Nothing can stop you now, all there is, is the song and you.

If you are finding that singing is filling up your confidence, you should take things a step further. Get in contact with a local singing coach; they can assist you in utilising your voice properly as well as to breathe and stand confidently. Taking this step serves as a considerable milestone as you will now be able to sing in-front of another person – your singing coach – and they will guide you in the process of making your voice stronger and stronger. With your inner barriers broken down, you will now be able to showcase your voice at open performances and on stage.

Coming to this stage is excellent preparation for any successful speech, whether it is at school, church or in your job because if you can sing, you can speak!

But what is it about simply singing, that drives away the shyness?

Well, according to Time Magazine, researchers have found that singing stimulates the production of a certain hormone called, Oxytocin. This particular hormone encourages, amongst other things, feelings of optimism; it increases self-esteem; and it helps to build trust. Most importantly, studies have shown that Oxytocin is increasingly being recognised as a hormone that can assist people in overcoming their social anxieties as well as mood-disorders, and thus, it provides the ability to break down those aforementioned barriers.

You will see that singing can develop a very new and confident person in you.
